Support Staff

Dear member of support staff

This section is under construction with a programme of CPD for support staff due for launch in January 2025.  This CPD programme will draw on the opportunities presented through the Apprenticeship pathways and provide opportunities for staff to progress in their careers in ways that may have not been possible in the past.

As part of our commitment to providing excellent support, we are delighted to share the following online courses to Teaching Assistants and those who support children in the classroom:

This 6 session programme is led by our Strategic Leader for Inclusion and delivered through expert practitioners across the Trust and beyond.

  • Session 1: How to be an effective Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant - using evidence from the Education Endowment Fund, this session will explore the habits and practice of the most effective Teaching Assistants.

  • Sessions 2 - 6: High quality support for children with:

    • Autism
    • Dyslexia
    • ADHD
    • SEMH
    • Speech and language needs

When: The dates for delivery are published in the STCAT calendar and advertised in the weekly Trust bulletin shared with schools.  Content will be available on catch-up outside of published sessions.

Who can apply:  These sessions are available to all Trust Teaching Assistants and all those who work in roles supporting learning in the classroom.  No application required.

The course is ideal for teaching assistants working in both primary and secondary mainstream or specialist schools who want to get a recognised qualification whilst gaining additional support for the SEND responsibilities they are now undertaking.

It includes not only the promotion of academic achievement but also a realisation of the importance of pupils’ emotional needs.  It is an excellent CPD opportunity, as well as providing you with a formal level 3 qualification and promoting the best pupil outcomes for the children in your care.

The online delivery approach means that you do not need to travel outside of school hours and the school will support you by providing dedicated time each week to complete your online learning, which you will then “embed” into your day-to-day work and produce a portfolio of evidence to show your learning in practice.

Full course details are available here.

If you would like to register your interest for this course, please complete our Expression of Interest form.  The deadline to register your interest for this course is Friday 6th December, other dates will be available later in the academic year.
